Breast Health Program

The New Science is here

You have 0ptions to improve your Breast Health.

One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

You likely already know about the wide variety of screening tools available including self-breast exam, clinical breast exams, ultrasounds, mammograms, and breast MR exams.

But what if you had information and guidance that personalized your individual breast health? What if you could assess your genetic risks, your nutritional deficiencies, and your personal ability to remove toxins from your body?

What if you could decrease your risk of developing Breast Cancer?

Contributors to Breast Health

Besides BRCA genes, we can now look at other genes and hormonal metabolites which profoundly affect breast health. We can help you modify your genetic risk. This new science is called Nutrigenomics. Now you can take advantage of it to improve your breast health.

Estrogen Metabolism

  • We can assess and modify the metabolism of estrogen with nutrition and supplements.
  • It is clear that adding estrogen to our bodies over time can increase the risk of breast cancer
  • Some chemicals (such as pesticides) act like estrogens in our bodies
  • It is now possible to see how estrogen is metabolized and whether or not its toxic byproducts are being safely removed from our bodies

Your Genes

  • Within each cell of your body are 23 pairs of chromosomes with over 30,000 genes that make up your DNA. Reading your genetic information allows you to make proteins and all of the “building blocks” of your body. Certain gene malformations called Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (or SNP’s) can result in an alteration of how our hormones are metabolized or processed.
  • Only 10% of Breast Cancers are caused by the BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 gene mutation. The presence of these mutations increases the lifetime risk of developing breast cancer from 12% to 85%. The lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer also increases from 1.8% to 55% if these mutations are present.
  • Interestingly, women born before 1940 have a 50% lower risk of developing breast cancer even with the BRCA 1 or 2 SNPs.

Diet

  • Colorful organic fruits and vegetables form the basis for the intake of your minerals, antioxidants and food-based vitamins. A variety of high quality plant-based foods is the essence of our approach to nutrition.
  • Achieving and maintaining your optimal body mass index (BMI) and body composition (bioimpedence assay) are the foundation of our integrative nutritional counseling.
  • Cutting edge technological advances have made it possible to assess your individual vitamin, antioxidant, and essential fat levels. We can also gauge your body’s ability to absorb nutrients, as well as determine the presence of potential toxins.

We tailor our recommendations to meet your individual needs.

Stress

Longterm stress on your body can produce weight gain, depression, chronic pain, worsening menopausal symptoms, PMS, or insulin resistance. We offer an assortment of practical and effective tools to respond to life’s stresses.

What you can do

  • Continue routine mammogram and MRI screening as recommended by your physician
  • See us for a nutritional and hormonal assessment to find out
        • How your body produces estrogen
        • What additional nutritional support you need to enhance your breast health
        • How stress is affecting your hormones
  • Explore stress reduction tools with us and adopt a strategy that works for you
  • Consume a variety of high quality, organic vegetables and fruits; connect with our nutritionist for body composition assessment and counseling
  • Consider genetic testing
        • If you have a close relative with breast cancer (sister, mother, daughter) test for BRCA 1 or BRCA 2
        • If you would like to improve estrogen metabolism, consider screening for genetic SNP’s that result in poor estrogen metabolism
